Cortland Lime Hollow Bird Club

Come be part of the Cortland Bird Club's May Birding Series. Enjoy a morning of birding on this Saturday, May 3. Meet Jim McKenna (leader) at the Lime Hollow Activity Center (Parking lot off of Gracie Road) at 7:00 am. We will hike along some of the steep terrain on the Tunison Lab side of the woods and visit a variety of habitats, including hemlock woods, the Fen,
and Chicago Bog. Dress for the weather and the walking.

These May walks will continue right up through May and until June 7. We will explore all parts of Lime Hollow and trips will leave from EITHER the old parking lot on Gracie Rd or from the new visitor center --all trips other than this weekend (May 10) will meet at Visitor Center. This weekend we'll meet at upper parking lot to entrance to Tunison. See details below for additional walks.

On Saturday, May 17, join us as bird bander/netter Gail Kirch will be on hand. Kirch will be setting up nets so kids and adults can get an up close look at some local species. There's no better way to celebrate Bird Month at Lime Hollow!

The Cortland Lime Hollow Bird Club was very active starting in the 1960's and currently has over 40 active members. Read a History of The Cortland Lime Hollow Bird Club. Our mission is to promote birdwatching in Cortland County and Central New York:

Our members range from novice birders to skilled naturalists of different age groups. Bird Club trips are held at least a few times a year with classes on birds and natural history often taught in spring.

Our monthly meetings (except January and July-Sept) include discussion on avian identification, bird song, nature conservation and education, butterflies, flowers, and environmental concerns. Meetings will resume on February 12, 2008 at 7 pm in the LH Visitor Center. All ages welcome. $15 annual membership fee supports the Lime Hollow Bird Sanctuary.

Lime Hollow and SUNY-Cortland co-sponsers a bird talk each early spring.

We also have one of the oldest Christmas Bird Counts in New York, The Cortland Chistmas Bird Count, which is usually held on the first Saturday of the count period. This year's CBC is open to novice and expert birders. If interested in participating please contact Matt Young at grosbeak@clarityconnect.com.
