It's That Time of Year ...

ImageIt's time to start thinking about Adventure Day Camp!

There are still a few spots left in the February break camp. Winter’s chill is still set upon the Hollow, and during February camp (18th-22nd) campers will have the opportunity to discover the frozen secrets of the forest. Besides participating in classic Lime Hollow camp activities like daily hikes, crafts, silly songs and favorite games, campers will also build snow sculptures, sled, and build a snow shelter called a quinzee!

March 21 will be "Maple Sugarin' Day" at Lime Hollow Adventure Day Camp! Campers will get the chance to experiment with tapping a tree and sampling some pure maple treats. Registration for this camp is open.

There will be another school break camp in April the week of the 14th-18th; a perfect time to celebrate the arrival of spring. Register for "Spring Fling" camp today!

Registration for Summer Adventure Day Camp opens on March 3rd!
Camp registration is on a first come, first serve basis. In order to hold your spot, you must provide a 50 percent deposit of the total cost of camp and the camp registration form. You may register for up to five weeks of camp. For more information and to obtain the registration form, visit our website.

Bald Eagle Exhibit at the Hollow

ImageThe U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service's New York Field Office (Cortland), the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation, and High School Seniors from the Cayuga County Environmental Science Class are working with Lime Hollow to celebrate New York Bald Eagles and their recovery over the past 30 years.

Starting Saturday, February 16th and featured through April, community members and visitors will be able to see and experience a new Bald Eagle exhibit at the Lime Hollow Visitor Center. The exhibit will include a life-sized eagle nest, painted mural, bald eagle mount, free posters and handouts, games, and more!

This is the second Visitor Center exhibit sponsored by the USF&WS; the first was an Endangered Indiana Bat exhibit featured October through November of 2007.

In conjunction with the exhibit, Mike Allen will presenting a slide show at the Lime Hollow Visitor Center on Saturday, February 23, 2008 from 2-4pm detailing his experiences with eagles in an effort to increase populations and breeding pairs in NY. He will also be the guest lecturer at the Annual Wilkins Bird Lecture at SUNY Cortland on Thursday, March 27, 2008 at 7:00pm. This event is co-sponsored by the SUNY Cortland Biology Club.

Questions about the exhibit or programming can be directed to the Lime Hollow Visitor Center at (607) 662-4632.

Spring/Summer Public Program Schedule

New and Improved

If you've driven by the Education Center on Gracie Road this winter, you may have noticed a little "pre-spring" cleaning. We've been cleaning out and sprucing up! The downstairs is newly renovated as a Knee-High Naturalist Space, complete with new carpeting and pint-sized tables and chairs. The space is inviting and comfortable, and the kids love it!

More changes are on the way as we keep improving and expanding our programs. Thanks for all your support and patience as we update!

Nature's Keepers

ImageDo you have a little one who loves to learn about nature? Then you should check out our Nature's Keepers pre-school program. Designed for children ages 3 to 5, Nature's Keepers is a weekly hour and a half class that allows children to learn about the wonders of the outdoors firsthand. So far, Nature's Keepers has experimented with Native American Wonders, making paint, musical instruments and learning Native American stories. They've also learned about Animals in Winter, tracking for deer and rabbits and beaver lodges. Each week is a new adventure, with plenty of time for learning and play!

The next session of Nature's Keepers, "Nature Adventure," starts on Monday, Feb. 25. The five-week session meets Mondays at 1:00 p.m. Cost per session is $45 for members and $55 for non-members. Come join us as we explore the natural world with our nature eyes!

Visit our website for registration or for more information.
