Glenn Reisweber named new Executive Director of Lime Hollow Center for Environment & Culture
Following a three-month, national search Lime Hollow Center for Environment & Culture (LHCEC) announced today it has found its new Executive Director right in Cortland: Glenn Reisweber, of Cortland, has joined the Center effective November 6. Reisweber, most recently a Professor of Military Science at Cornell University where he [oversaw that institution’s ROTC program among other responsibilities], will bring his extensive organizational expertise, administrative skills, and love of the outdoors to bear on the post.
“Although we had excellent candidates from as far away as Montana, Florida, California, and elsewhere which attests to the quality of our organization and the overall attractiveness of Central New York, we are very excited to have found a first-rate candidate in our own backyard,” says LHCEC Board President, John Hoeschele, who chaired a search committee composed of board members and other community representatives. “With our new visitor center opening this spring, we’re proud to have Glenn take the helm and take us into the future.” Hoeschele added about the 12-year old center for environment and culture.
A native of Buffalo, NY, Reisweber received his Bachelor’s Degree in International Relations from the United States Military Academy at West Point in 1984. Upon graduation, he was commissioned as a Field Artillery Second Lieutenant in the United States Army, after which his 22-year career with the Army included a variety of leadership positions, tours of duty throughout the US and in Europe, and a return to his West Point alma mater as Assistant Professor in the Department of Military Instruction. Reisweber’s educational background includes advanced tactics training at Fort Benning, Georgia, graduation from the Army’s Strategic Management Course at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, and a Master’s Degree in Strategic Planning from the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California. Reisweber retired from the military as a Lieutenant Colonel on October 1st.
Locally, Reisweber has been volunteering for LHCEC coordinating multiple projects associated with the new Visitor Center on McLean Road and assisting in Lime Hollow’s Nature-Scaping program. He has been an active member of the Boy Scouts of America for over 13 years, where he is currently the Assistant Scoutmaster, Outdoor Activities Coordinator, and Eagle Scout Advisor for Troop 79 in Homer. And, he is also a member of the American Legion, Post 489 in Cortland as well as serving as a Red Cross Armed Forces Emergency Services volunteer.
“I’m charged up, ready, and raring to take on Lime Hollow’s mission of promoting and protecting this neat natural oasis in Central New York,” says Reisweber. “The center’s reputation is outstanding. Its staff, members, and volunteer corps are devoted and energized. And Lime Hollow’s programs are first rate…I’m inheriting a fine legacy.”
With regard to that legacy, Reiseweber will work alongside outgoing LHCEC founder and Executive Director, Dr. Charles Yaple, through January, 2007 in order to ensure a smooth transition. Yaple, in turn, has been invited by the Board of Directors, says Hoeschele, to remain close to the organization through involvement in committee work, high-level development, among other means.
Reisweber is married, has two children, and resides in Cortlandville; he is an avid runner, hiker, fisherman, and canoeing enthusiast.
